We wanted to bring you insights from some of our in-house therapists, including naturopathy with Susan Nove. Susan will be offering tasters during the upcoming Treatments Week from the 17th – 23rd of October.
What does Naturopathy mean?
Naturopathy is an alternative form of medicine using natural remedies and lifestyle changes to support the body and mind in maintaining one’s optimum health and well-being.
What are the basic principles of Naturopathy?
Naturopathy uses one’s own natural healing abilities to restore the body to a natural state of balance by treating the actual cause of the disease, as opposed to the symptoms. This balance is achieved via a variety of treatments which can include: a gentle detoxification process, nutritional and dietary advice, supplements, herbal remedies, homeopathy, lifestyle changes, exercise, corrective stretches, an adjustment in one’s thought patterns or a combination of these modalities.
What conditions can Naturopathy help with?
Naturopathy is beneficial for your general state of well-being and can treat a wide variety of disorders. It’s particular effective for: asthma, anxiety, allergies, auto-immune conditions, colds, coughs, chronic conditions, depression, grief, digestive disorders, earache, eczema, fatigue, fibroids, headaches, infertility, insomnia, low libido, migraines, menstrual complaints, menopause, obesity, recurrent infections, sinus problems, skin conditions, urinary disorders and many more.
When should you consult a naturopath?
A visit to your Naturopath is like a tune-up, or a general service for the body. Ideal times to pay a visit are during seasonal changes, when one is feeling low in vitality or if energy levels are flagging. Someone may also visit for one of the presenting issues mentioned above. Naturopathic treatments are suitable for both children and adults.
How is naturopathy different from a ‘nutritional consultation’?
Naturopathy uses more than just nutritional support as a treatment. Naturpoathic remedies include herbs, homeopathy and lifestyle changes, and are all part of a holistic plan you may receive from your naturopath. Though nutritional attention is key in one’s health, naturopaths support their treatments with other modalities.
What can you expect from a consultation?
Naturopaths use many natural diagnostic tools, such as iridology (reading the characteristics of the iris), analysis of the tongue and nails and blood type testing to uncover various causes of poor health. There will also be an extensive consultation covering one’s full health history and an in-depth study of all presenting symptoms. Various functional tests may also be needed to support a naturopathic consultation.
