8 seeds to plant for the Year of the Rooster

triyoga-rooster-lunar-new-year

With the Chinese and Lunar New Year starting tomorrow, this weekend is the time to manifest any intentions and to “plant the seeds” for the Year of the Rooster.

At his recent workshops at triyoga Camden, spiritual teacher Gahl Sasson* shared, “Whatever you want to do this year, make sure you do it – even if it’s a little bit – on the first day of the Lunar New Year. So, if you want to run more this year, make sure you run on the 28th January (or very close to this date)… even if it’s just for 10 minutes!”

So, here are 8 “seeds” that you can plant this weekend with us at triyoga:

1) a seed for inner peace

Join Nikki Slade and Jonathan Sattin for an extra special focus to kirtan (chanting) and meditation to bring auspicious blessings for the Year of the Rooster. This is a perfect opportunity to bring the highest vibration to all areas of your life and to feel inspired for the year ahead. This evening session takes place tomorrow in Camden, with 30 minutes of meditation and then approximately an hour of kirtan together.

2) a seed for new beginnings

Have you found yourself perplexed this week with our ashtanga focus for #everyonetriyoga? What perfect way to start your ashtanga practice than with Helena Rosenthal‘s ashtanga foundations workshop this Sunday in Chelsea. Helena will provide us with a deep explanation of the ashtanga tradition, starting with its origins, explaining the foundations and allowing us to then develop a consistent and safe practice. You will walk away with all the necessary basics for you to develop a consistent, sustainable and joyful practice.

3) a seed for body awareness

Most of us who run have our own unique style. This style, the “habit” of moving is not always the most efficient. These habits are often so in-grained into us that we are unaware of the strain on our joints, the extra muscular work or our restricted breathing. If you intend to commit to running this year, consider joining Emma Douka for her workshop tomorrow on Pilates for runners. You will gain awareness through movement practice, and get a better sense of how the whole body moves in your own unique running style.

4) a seed for free expression

If you have been told to practice “letting go” or allowing your muscles to release and relax, then Ayala Gill’s daylong workshop exploring yoga, meditation and open-floor dance may be for you.  This powerful and liberating workshop will be co-led by Ayala Gill and Emily Woof, who will help us to embody the five elements of earth, fire, air, water and space to enhance our own capacity to be grounded, alert, open, relaxed and awake. Open-floor dance allows us to develop our embodied sense of ourselves, moving us gently out of form into deep and releasing free expression. We will use the energy of yoga to fuel and inspire our own authentic movements, supported by a rich and varied soundtrack. Periods of stillness and guided mindfulness meditation will be integrated throughout the day, allowing for a conscious knowing of these elemental energies and our relationship to them.

‘embody the 5 elements’ daylong workshop for yoga, meditation + open-floor dance with Ayala Gill + guest teacher Emily Woof in Camden, Sunday 29th January, 10.00am – 5.00pm

5) a seed for self-healing

Release old tension that may be holding you back with Pawel Wiacek’s TRE workshop tonight in Camden. TRE, which stands for trauma and tension releasing exercises, have been developed to help awaken our bodies, to its natural healing capacity. TRE has been known to have a profound effect on the nervous system. The tremors assist us in moving from a flight-and-flight response, to a more relaxed state of being.
