As I committed in my message of 6th June I wanted to update you on what we’ve been doing on the vital issue of inclusivity at triyoga.
We are working with an external, independent and esteemed specialist in the area of diversity, Dr Stacie Graham, to help and guide me and us on this so that through an initial 8 week plan we have a clear goal to this work and how we get there. Stacie is also a Yoga teacher and student so she understands our area.
We’re gathering as much data as possible on our current profile of management, staff, teachers and therapists. We are doing a detailed survey amongst our board, all staff, teachers and therapists, to see where we currently are. I founded triyoga on the basis of ‘everyone triyoga’ and we will establish factually whether there has been any unconscious drift from that position in the last 20 years.
Then utilising Stacie’s expertise, identifying any gaps and potential areas of improvement and then the actions to take to address these. We will of course, include all of the discussion and comments that you have offered.
We will then put together (and publish) a proper detailed action plan with timelines and responsibilities.
As our first action, Stacie is setting up trainings in the current best practices for anti-racism and (unconscious) bias training for myself, our managers, HO, Board and centre teams which we will undertake in the next few weeks. This will be part of ongoing and refresher trainings.
It will take us time to get it to our goal so please bear with us. We will keep you updated as we progress and, as always, welcome your feedback along the way.
Thank you and keep well,
Jonathan Sattin
