I first encountered Ear Candling whilst living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I studied with Native American shamen and healers. It was part of a spiritual ceremony where the medicine man inserted a cone shaped cotton tube, impregnated with beeswax and honey, into my ear; he then blew healing herbs like white sage gently into the cone to clear the mind and senses and lit it like a candle to draw out impurities. I found it really soothing, a sort of ‘ear smudging’. It also had a medicinal effect as I suffered from seasonal allergies to Juniper and my sinuses were completely clear after the treatment.
Many ancient cultures including the Aztec, Chinese, Tibetans and Egyptians have records of having used this fascinating technique.
So what can Ear Candles do for you?
– Clear the mind and senses
– Improve hearing caused by excess wax
– Clear congested sinuses
– Help alleviate the symptoms of :
– Tinnitus
– Glue ear
– Colds
– Headaches and migraines
– As their action is so gentle, it is particularly suitable for children
What are Ear Candles?
Ear Candles are hollow tubes made of organic cotton, impregnated with beeswax, herbs, therapeutic oils and honey. Once lit, the candle acts like a chimney, causing the warm air inside it to rise and creating a vacuum at the bottom. This vacuum gently stimulates the ear, facilitating removal of excess wax and impurities.
Whilst one might assume the candle sucks wax out of the ear, it simply stimulates the ear to eliminate the wax naturally.
What happens during a treatment?
At the beginning of your treatment a full consultation is carried out to establish information about yourself, your lifestyle and why you are coming. The treatment is very soothing, and should leave you with a sense of well-being and reduced pressure in the ears or head. You will be asked to lie on your side, fully clothed, with your head on a pillow and a small towel to protect your hair. As the special Organic Ear Candle burns, a slight warmth is felt, and you may hear crackling or hissing sounds which are not unpleasant. (I should add that nothing is blown into the ear in this treatment!) The candle is held all times. Most clients see an improvement in hearing due to reduced wax build up, clearer nasal passages and an improved sense of smell. Full benefits are likely to continue for the next few days. Both ears are treated (it takes approximately 12 mins on each side) followed by a restorative Bergman Method Facial Reflexology treatment which includes facial lymphatic drainage massage. At the end of each treatment the candles are opened and a reading of the contents is shared.
Ziggie offers Native American Ear Candling as an add-on to either the Zone Face Lift or Bergman Method Facial Reflexology treatments as this combination gets the best results for her clients (rather than as a separate treatment). A one-off treatment can do the trick for some conditions, but it is recommended that you have 3 treatments a week apart. Not suitable for perforated eardrums, ear grommets or tubes and ear infections.
