golden latte recipe

golden tumeric latte

A golden latte is not only a delicious winter warmer, but boasts some great immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties, making this the perfect drink to get you through the cold and flu season. Our resident health coach, Sujata Din, explains more and shares her at-home recipe.

Turmeric has been used for centuries in India and is a spice that I use almost daily.  It has a warming and bitter taste and belongs to the ginger family.  It’s most frequently used in the kitchen when making curries, smoothies, soups and golden milk (see recipe below) however, it is also widely used for its medicinal properties, in traditional Indian rituals and in the food and fabric industries due to its vibrant yellow-orange colour.

The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin which is well documented for having many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties.  It is best absorbed in the body when combined with fat and piperine (found in black pepper).*

During the winter months you can enjoy a cup of golden latte to keep you warm and help alleviate some of the symptoms of cold and flu. Just follow the easy at-home recipe below to make enough to serve two.

Golden Latte
Serves 2

Ginger piece about 1 inch
Turmeric piece 1 inch
2 cups milk (or non-dairy milk of choice)
½ tsp cinnamon powder
Pinch of black pepper
Honey or maple syrup (optional and add to taste)

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and then pour the milk into a pan and heat it.  Pour into two cups and sprinkle some cinnamon powder over.
