By now, you’ve probably heard of hygge (pronounced “hoo-ga”) – the Danish concept of “creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people”, according to Denmark’s official tourism website.
There’s no shortage of hygge adaptations in the Capital – from restaurants decked out in Nordic winter forest decor to even hygge festivals, busy Londoners seem keen to adapt this traditional Danish secret to happiness.
So, as the days grow shorter and our daily commutes turn darker, hygge is a good way to bask in cosiness and find happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
5 ways you can hygge with triyoga:
hygge with loved ones
Probably the most important aspect of hygge is spending time with our loved ones. Whether it’s sharing a hot drink after your class or sharing a practice together, there’s no limit to how we can appreciate each other’s company.
hygge in heat
Feel warm and cosy all day after a triyoga hot yoga class. Our centres use far infrared heat, which heats our bodies directly instead of just heating the room. Sweaty yoga not your thing? Our Camden centre offers a far infrared sauna, open every day and to every triyoga visitor.
hygge in silence
Part of hygge is taking comfort in what you’re grateful for, and meditation can be a channel for that gratitude. Take the time to reflect and practise your meditation – at home, on the mat or in our meditation room at Camden.
hygge with a treat
From cocktails to chocolatey delights, temptation is never far away at this time of year. Rather than holding back, hygge encourages us to be kind to ourselves and indulge. So, go ahead – treat yourself to that massage or chocolate cake… you deserve it!
hygge by candlelight
Although we sigh at the dreary London weather, find comfort in darkness with the ambient light and warmth of a candle. At triyoga, we try to emulate this ambiance with rechargeable electric tea light candles in every studio.
Danish Londoner and author of ScandiKitchen: Fika + Hygge Bronte Aurell recently wrote, “Hygge is that feeling you have when you forget about time for a bit. Forget about tomorrow’s deadline and take [the] time to live in the moment with whoever you are with”.
So no matter how you do it, happy hygge-ing from everyone at triyoga.
