Everyone knows the feeling of tired and aching muscles after strenuous exercise or a vigorous yoga class. Painful muscles after physical exercise, known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) can occur when starting a new exercise programme or when increasing the duration and intensity of a regular workout. Microscopic damage is caused to the muscle fibres, a soreness that is part of an adaptation process, that leads to greater stamina and strength as the muscles recover and build.
To support the muscles in their recovery and lighten the associated discomfort, Skin & Tonic created a sensational muscle balm for triyoga. Exclusively sold in our triyoga shops, tje Mend Blend contains organic ingredients to provide not only a tingling sensation, but also to increase blood circulation for a speedy recovery.
what are the healing ingredients?
- menthol & peppermint oil provide a cooling sensation and have a calming effect on the nervous system
- wintergreen acts as a natural analgesic (pain reducer) and may help to reduce muscle spasms
- cinnamon promotes healthy circulation and relieves sore muscles and joints
- clove bud oil contains analgesic properties and is a natural aphrodisiac
Sweet almond oil is in combination with beeswax is used to create this healing ointment. Together they protect the skin against irritants, provide high levels of antioxidants and allow these powerful essential oils to act on our bodies and minds.
how to use:
Ideally one tunes into the body, becoming aware of the sore muscles and joints. As a next step, take a warm bath or a hot shower and apply the muscle balm while the pores of the skin are still soft and widely open. Takes a few deep breaths, focussing the energy on the area of muscle pain or soreness, sending it healing energy. A deep inhalation will further increase oxygen supply and may help to clear mucous congestion in the sinuses and respiratory tract. Now one can take a little bit more of the Mend Blend, and apply it to the temples as well as to the third eye to clear any potential headache. Mindful application in the form of a little wellbeing ritual will work best to provide long lasting benefits.
Another way of making the most of the “coolest rub in town” is to take it with you to a massage session and to ask the therapist to apply it to the tender area. Massage therapy in combination with the healing benefits of the essential oils ensure a speedy recovery for an optimal exercise regime and a dedicated yoga practice.
