Did you know that Lolly Stirk is offering the full perinatal package ‘solely’ through Triyoga. Lolly was one of the originators of pregnancy yoga in the 80s and has devoted her working life to the development of a safe and effective form of pregnancy and postnatal yoga. She is also a founder member of the Active Birth Movement campaigning for women’s rights, contributing to a global movement towards natural births and resulting in many changes to policy, establishing birth centres in many major hospitals.
Her pregnancy yoga classes are not just pregnancy yoga classes. For the first half hour of her one-and-a-half-hour class she opens the floor for discussion and Q and A. Sometimes Lolly will present a mini talk on a subject of interest to pregnant women like ‘breathing in labour’ or ‘pelvic floor care’. To our delight often women come back in this part of the class with their birth partner and baby to talk to the group about their labour and birth and how is being a new mom. So much ‘real’ information is passed on.
Then onto the hour of yoga which is multi-layered. On one level, through the breathing, positions and movements we are easing the challenges of pregnancy like backache, stress and tiredness, creating space, energy and relaxation. On another level through breath and body awareness, we are preparing for labour and birth by opening up the route to our instinctive selves.
These classes go hand in hand with Lolly’s monthly Birth Preparation Workshops which she calls Active Birth/Hypnobreathing. In this four-hour session Lolly passes on all her experience as an Childbirth Educator, Hypnobirther and Doula. Women and their birth partners are given the tools to encourage this evolved process and release the fear that surrounds and ambushes birth.
After your baby arrives, you are invited to join Lolly at her postnatal yoga classes. Here again through the breath work and positions you will learn how to assist your body on its journey of recovery to strength and suppleness and be reminded of how the breath can be your best friend when it comes to being a Mother. She calls these classes, ‘Closing the Bones’.
