CPress: detox – shake it up for summer

Hello! We hope you’ve become acquainted with CPress who are heading up our café spaces at triyoga Chelsea, Shoreditch and Ealing. We’ve teamed up with them for a series of blogs focusing on different aspects of health and nutrition and the yoga classes or styles that best support them.

First up is your classic detox. In this polluted world that we live in there is no better time to give your body a helping hand when it comes to cleansing itself of inhaled toxins, bad food choices, over indulgence and too much alcohol. You’d be surprised at the weight of the toxic burden that we’re all carrying around with us without even realising it. Read on to get our top tips on a pre-summer revitalise!

shake it up for summer

Well, it’s June! How that happened we aren’t really sure, but one thing is certain – it is time to get summer ready! Now on a scale of 1 to 10 how bored are you of hearing that phrase? Ha, yep! We thought so! Why do we need to get summer ready after all? It’s not as if getting your kit off is a prerequisite for this season, if you don’t want it to be. If you’re happy in your skin and confident in yourself (see our series on self-love), then you shouldn’t feel like you need to change the way you look just because it’s now warm enough to wear short shorts.

There is something to be said though for maybe shaking things up a bit to suit the new summer season, shifting the balance within our bodies to reflect the longer days, the bright sunlight, the abundance of greenery and the happy and feel good vibes that permeate the London streets at this time of year. Let’s face it, it was a long, cold and dank winter and it’s time to shake those cobwebs off and up your energy. Here are our tips on how to cleanse the body from the inside out to get you feeling energised and raring to go.

give it a rest

Sometimes when your aim is to be more active, be more energetic and do things at a faster pace actually what you need to do first is slow down. Our number one tip for making this happen is to give your body the time it needs to detoxify. A juice cleanse can be really helpful for this as rather than focusing so much on breaking complex food down into its constituent parts for energy, you can still consume tonnes on micro-nutrients from organic juice and let your body put the energy it would usually use for digestion into other vital processes. By increasing cellular energy you increase your body’s ability to heal itself.

nutrients not numbers

All this macro counting that’s popular at the moment is blind sighting us into thinking that a plate of chicken, sweet potato and broccoli for supper every day is #healthgoals. Yes, on the surface it’s a healthy and balanced meal but you got to switch things up if you want to increase your body’s micro-nutrient status. Micro-nutrients, (things like zinc, magnesium and calcium), rather than macronutrients, (protein, carbohydrates and fat), play vital roles as enzyme co-factors within our bodies, without which many vital functions, like ATP synthesis for energy production, don’t work as well. It’s a cliché but “Eat the Rainbow” honestly is good advice when it comes to upping your vitality.

nature’s little helpers

Our body naturally produces free radicals; it’s a completely normal part of body function and metabolism. Now, we know that free radicals are scary things – they contribute to ageing and even in some cases cancer. Thankfully, our bodies are also super clever and they produce the antioxidants needed to quench these free radicals. The problem arises however, when we inundate our bodies with extra chemicals that require yet more antioxidants. So skin creams, air pollution and non-organic food all add to this toxic burden. Nature again has the answer, and this is where superfoods come into play. Superfoods are essentially foods that have a higher than average density of beneficial ingredients. So blueberries contain antioxidants, but acai berries contain even more. At CPress we like to include superfoods into a lot of what we make; whether that’s some liquid chlorophyll in a Super Green Booster, turmeric in a latte or blue algae in a lemonade.

move your body

Movement is medicine just as food is medicine, and the two go hand in hand. Yoga is an incredible way to look after your body’s health, not only from a physical point of view (increased flexibility, joint health etc.), but also mentally as well.

For a detoxifying boost try a triyoga hot class – suitable for all levels, this class uses far infrared heat which encourages the body to sweat out toxins (such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid), whilst increasing your metabolism and heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout and improved blood circulation. triyoga hot classes take place daily at all centres – click here to view the schedule book a class.
