treatments to alleviate stress, part 3: guided reflexology

The final part of our series about treatments to alleviate stress focuses on guided reflexology. triyoga therapist HueLan Tracy Chau shares her thoughts on the intimate mind-body relationship and how it relates to stress in daily life. It is the power of this connection that led her to integrate her reflexology treatments with a guided mind and body awareness meditation.

The mind plays a big part in healing and cannot be ignored since mind and body is interdependent. Most of the time when we are only treating the body, it is very difficult to get to the root cause of the problem without understanding what’s going on inside our head.

We learn to take care of our body through diet, exercise, washing and protecting it from the elements. When it comes to our mind, we take everything for granted, and we have no understanding of how to look after or nurture it.

Ninety-nine percent of stress-related illnesses comes from some kind of mental imbalance. Throughout my healing journey as well as seeing clients over the years, I found integrating reflexology with a guided mind and body awareness meditation has been extremely important. My clients benefit significantly by bringing their the mind and body back into union while receiving reflexology at the same time which increases healing from the inside out. By the end of the session, clients often commented on how they feel super relaxed, clear, energised, balanced, calm and being themselves again.

When we lead busy lives our mind is often ‘out there’ constantly distracted and bombarded by stimulus from all directions. When this happens, you will notice the breath is also disconnected and ends up only in the upper body. As a result, a lot of traffic jam is caused resulting stiffness and blockages in the upper part of the body, i.e. chest, shoulders, neck and head areas. As well as a sign when the ‘chi’ or ‘prana’ flow is not flowing fluidly and freely leading to insomnia, restlessness and speediness to the nervous system.

When the mind is busy or runs on ‘autopilot’, there’s a tendency to disconnect the harmony of the mind and body relationship overloading it with more stress. With the fast pace of life, it is more evident that we need to work with the mind as well as the body to maximise good health and wellbeing.

In addition to guided reflexology, HueLan offers facial and pregnancy reflexology as well as rapid transformational therapy. Click here to view HueLan’s schedule at triyoga Camden and to book a treatment.
