teacher focus: Sarah Ramsden

Sarah Ramsden has worked in professional football for 13 years, including 11 years at Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs. As well as working with some of the world’s leading athletes, she’s used her extensive knowledge of anatomy, sports science and many other movement disciplines to help yoga students all over the world move better, both on and off the mat. We asked her a few questions ahead of her workshops in Shoreditch and Soho on 5th and 6th October 2018.

If you could be remembered for one thing what would it be?
Kept on trying to be a half-decent human being.

What top three things are on your bucket list?
Haven’t got one – life throws up more fabulous stuff than I could think of.

What’s your favourite quote?
‘Shit Happens’. Or more poetically from the Desiderata, ‘with all its sham and drudgery and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world. Strive to be happy.’

What do you attribute the biggest successes in your life to?
A bit of preparation, lots of balls, luck definitely and maybe being willing to say ‘yes’.

What do you think your future self will remember about you now?
Bloody brilliant times! But next time around laugh more and work less.

What one book would you recommend reading?
Phillip Pullman ‘His Dark Materials’ – page-turning, mind-blowing and awesomely cosmic all in one.

Who would you most want to be on a desert island with?
For a day – David Bowie (well, maybe a week!). For ever – OK its soppy, but my husband.

What is the secret to a happy and fulfilled life?
Er – being happy and fulfilled? Or am I missing something?

Where is your happy place?
Wherever my heart is – and it gets lots of places.

If you could teach everyone in the world one concept, what concept would have the biggest impact on humanity?
Make love not war.

Is intelligence or wisdom more useful?
Not sure I have a huge amount of either! And I appear to have less as I get older. Go for wisdom.

What life-altering things should every human ideally get to experience at least once in their lives?
Being in love with someone who is also in love with you.

What two questions would you ask to get the most information about who a person truly is?
Probably wouldn’t ask – just look at how they live their life.

What is the biggest waste of human potential?
Inequality.

What causes the most harm in the world, but is completely avoidable?
Right now, plastic (and our hydrocarbon-grabbing egos).

To what extent do you shape your own destiny and how much is down to fate?
You don’t get to choose the cards you’re dealt, but you do choose how you play them.

Join Sarah Ramsden at triyoga Shoreditch and Soho for two workshops on the 05th and 06th October 2018, and from 23rd February for a yoga for athletes and sport teacher training. To find out more and book, please click here.
