chiropractice for winter aches + pains

Are you feeling tired or fatigued? Is your back feeling stiff or in discomfort? What about muscle aches and pains? Or even headaches?

It’s that time of year again, when the weather is starting to change and when bad weather is approaching, it becomes the topic of conversation amongst many here in the UK – not because it becomes dark sooner, but because their joints start to ache and their back and neck pain seems to worsen. Just ask our patients!

What is the correlation between achy bodies and weather change? Is there one?
Unfortunately, there isn’t a definitive explanation and there have only been few controlled studies regarding this matter. The most popular theory indicates air pressure known as barometric pressure, plays a factor that precedes weather changes.

With the human body, this means the fluid in swollen joints expands following changes in barometric pressure and the expansion stretches soft tissue, which irritates nerve endings and causes pain. The pain isn’t directly coming from weather change, but from the existing inflammation becoming exacerbated or flared up. A number of disorders have been identified as being sensitive to changes in the weather, such as headaches, back pain, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. These aches, pains or discomforts may not be experienced all the time. And not everyone experiences issues with weather change.

If you already suffer from a bit of pain or discomfort, or feel fatigued, you already know that the cold may be debilitating. Seeing a chiropractor can help alleviate pain and stiffness, whilst improving flexibility to help fight off that chronic pain through the cold.
