Everything that is alive moves. Yet for women trying to conceive, or in early pregnancy, they may feel that their body is unfamiliar to them. It’s hard to know how and when to move in a way that is safe and supportive to the body.
There are so many conflicting rules and regulations on what to do and what not do at this time. It’s little wonder that many women feel scared and anxious. For women undergoing fertility treatment there will be so many stages to navigate. The effects of medication and injections, recovering from procedures and enduring the challenge of the two week wait to find out if treatment worked. There may have been a history of miscarriage or failed treatments, which can have an impact physically and emotionally.
For women in the first trimester of pregnancy, it’s not yet the time to be welcomed in a pregnancy class. The body is changing but like there’s little that’s visible on the outside. It’s like the winter before it blooms into spring.
Connecting with the body helps to develop trust and confidence and cultivates the benefits of going inward. Moving the body is about so much more than fitness. It’s a place to express emotions, and let go of stress and tension. Emotions such as frustration, sadness and fear are best to be moved than held.
It’s important to learn how to soften for those who are used to a more intense workout. At the same time, it’s worth learning how to have confidence to feel strong, flexible and embodied.
