Whilst Dana didn’t initially intend on being a yoga teacher, she felt called to the profession after seeing what she felt it lacked: a safe space for a community of marginalised people to explore a practice intended for all.
Learning how to make the practice work for her own body gave Dana a sense of autonomy and empowerment, and it is this which she wanted to share with others – regardless of their size, gender, body shape or colour. After years of suffering from low confidence, Dana finally found her true calling: helping to normalise the diversity of the human condition and give others, especially vulnerable groups, the opportunity for self-worth, self-care and, ultimately, self-acceptance.
Dana is now recognised by millions across social media for her message: anybody can practise yoga and everybody has a right to be their true self no matter what body they are in.
On her own journey, Dana says, “My path changed when I decided to listen to myself. To tune into feeling and narrow in on what I really wanted out of my life and what gifts I had to share. Without realising it, my yoga practice began to bring me home to myself after many years of self-loathing, depression, harmful dieting, weight loss and gain, and generally feeling out of place in the world and especially in my body. It gave me a sense of clarity and with that, I knew I had to share what I was learning.”
From Friday 8th – Sunday 10th February, Dana will be hosting a weekend of workshops on self-love and positive body image at triyoga Camden. Across the weekend she will share her own powerful story on her journey to self-love, provide tips on practising yoga in a larger body and share guidance on how to cultivate a more positive body image. The weekend will also include discussions on how yoga can be used to tackle social injustice, covering topics such as diet culture and fatphobia.
On Sunday 10th February, Dana will also be holding a separate teachers’ inclusivity workshop which will look specifically at ways that teachers can create a more inclusive environment in their classes.
