At triyoga we care about the brands we stock in our retail spaces and always ensure brands are working in a collaborative relationship with their factories and have complete transparency about their supply chain. It’s important to us that no one is taken advantage of in the making of the clothes we stock. This week for Fashion Revolution we wanted to highlight a few of our brands so you can find out who made them.
Asquith London
Asquith London is known as a leader in ethical and environmentally sustainable fashion. For the past 5 years their collections have been made in a family run factory in South Turkey that shares founder Alice’s values in putting people and the planet first.
The factory was established 26 years ago by Sahika, who has created a fantastic environment for workers which produces top quality products. Many of the 50 strong team have been working at the factory between 10 – 25 years. Alice says she has “never experienced such a friendly, family atmosphere in any workplace. Everyone is treated equally, from the helpers in the kitchen to the production manager.”
Free Spirit
Free Spirit make all their tanks and sweaters in ethical factories in the South of India, Tamil Nadu. Founder, Christina, oversees the whole production process from sourcing the raw cotton and bamboo fibres, to seeing it being spun into yarn, knitted into fabric, dyed, washed, printed and finally sewn into garments. All these processes happen within 5 minutes’ drive of each other, which cuts down unnecessary emissions and transport. They only use 100% sustainable materials, including recycled paper for swing tags and recycled and bio-degradable packaging.
Jilla Active
Jill Active was founded by David and Lilian Chen in 2016. Having owned their own factory in China for 30 years they wanted to use their expertise in seamless knitting to create Jilla.
They say, “we have close ties to our factory and our regular visits makes sure we are in touch with the conditions to ensure high working standards. Our factory has passed the internationally recognised WRAP and SEDEX checks along with many other industry recognised audits which we have certificates and reports.”
Ana Heart
Ana Heart’s factory is in Portugal and they have worked with the factory since their launch. It is a family run business and the Ana Heart team visit 4 times a year to oversea each collection. They say having a close relationship with their factory is vital for their business needs to ensure they offer the best product to the marketplace.
OHMME Apparel
Conscious, sustainable change is at the heart of OHMME Apparel’s ethics, with the whole team striving to be conscious of the decisions they make every day. Right now they are working on 3 major channels to make a difference in both the environment and manufacturing process.
- Recycling: with most of their collection being made from rPET made of re-formed polymers gathered from post-consumer plastic bottles. They are also working towards using recycled paper packaging.
- Bluesign: an independent organisation that provides audits of textile mills, gathering and sharing information on the entire production process. Working in line with Bluesign keeps OHMME in the know about areas of concern in the manufacturing world.
- Oeko-tex 100: a testing protocol that ensures that every raw material is tested to make sure it has no harmful chemicals according to the global restricted substance lists from all over the world.
The guys at OHMME say, “by implementing these measures into our manufacturing and production, we are making as low an impact on our environment as possible. Also, by educating ourselves on these processes, we can better inform our customers how to shop mindfully across the board. It’s a constant learning process but here at OHMME, we are committed to keeping both the customer and environment’s safety at the forefront.”
