Intuitive coach and EFT therapist Ashley Jones looks at some helpful tools we can call upon during these interesting times. How can we create calm and stillness within the storm? What can we share with those that may be struggling? Can this be a time of reflection and creation?
What do you have in your toolbox for these times?
It’s been a week since we received the word to stay in, how are you coping?
I’m not writing this to let you know that I have the answers on how to get through this, I don’t. I’m not writing to tell you to take a deep breath, to stay strong on any yoga, meditation or any other anchoring practice you might have; yet of course these things can certainly be a massive lifeline and help. What is on offer is my humble perspective and a hope that it brings a little light.
What a craggy landscape we are navigating, a curve ball kind of journey unlike anything we’ve experienced ever. We all have those that we are worried about, people close and dear to us, the world’s populations at large, near and far, there are people who are suffering and worried by the times.
What kind of collective time out have we been put in? The thin veil of illusion that we are in control has gone, completely removed. I am noticing ever more keenly how much discord there was with how I’d been living on autopilot.
When I began training and weaving together my wellness “job” for want of a better word back in 2006 the world was a different place. Yoga, meditation, gong baths, cacao et al were very much out on the fringes of society… how things have shifted over these years to become so mainstream. Prior to embarking on any of the trainings I remember getting a strong sense that I needed an effective toolbox of tricks to take myself on, to heal and to nurture the acorn that had a sense of the oak tree.
My first training was Kundalini yoga teacher training. I’ve never been one to quote from the course but this encapsulated a deep belief I’d never put words to; “be the lighthouse”.
As I sit now I see a woman through the window in the flats across dancing her heart out in the living room, as many others are also doing their best to uplift themselves. I’m recalling the clapping and cheering the other night for our carers and those literally holding the fort for us and the ¾ million people signed up to become NHS Volunteer Responders. Perhaps our collective heart is beating a bit more in unison; perhaps those of us that can are becoming a little bit more lighthouse, beaming out a signal of hope, we’ll make a safe journey back from this.
Hopefully when this storm passes we’ll emerge with greater awareness of our global kinship, kindness, connection and compassion. This is my hope and what I’ll be focussing on, meditating on and creating towards as I use this time to become the change I wish to see. Won’t you join me and countless others creating the eye of stillness and calm within the storm.
Perhaps this time we’re facing is what the growing surge of interest in all things the sages, seers, mystics and yogis pointed towards was all for, so that people might have some tools in their toolboxes to navigate these times with and to share with those who are struggling.
When all else fails.. I pray:
Dear [insert your word, or none]
Please take the past and the future
Transform them both into expressions of love and compassion.
Get my small mind out of the way of thinking I can’t.
May I be a tap that love flows from.
May I hold out my hands to help, my ears to listen and eyes to witness.
May this gestation period birth us to be kinder to ourselves, the planet and to each other.
This is my prayer. Thank you
