summer scents

During these hot summer days, essential oils are a great way to cool down, soothe the skin and keep the mind alert and uplifted. Here are some of our top picks for the summer.

Refreshing + cooling Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

When the summer temperatures are at their best, peppermint is a great companion to keep us cool, fresh and focused. Put a few drops on an inhaler stick with lemon and lavender help to keep the mind alert. Alternatively,  put a few drops in rose water and use it as a spray for your face to keep you refreshed at all time. Finally, blend it with organic aloe vera gel and massage it on tired hot feet.

Soothing Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

It has been hot this summer! Whilst the sun provides us with lots of vitamin D, too much sun can leave our skin hot and damaged. Blend lavender with your neutral body cream or oil to soothe the skin. In the case of sunburn, mix lavender with organic aloe vera gel to rehydrate and help damaged skin. Roman chamomile and palmarosa can also be added as they are quite good for skin conditions.

Calming and uplifting Neroli (Citrus Bigaradia)

A favourite for the heart. The beautiful smell of orange blossom has a relaxing and uplifting impact on emotions and feelings. Blend Neroli with coconut oil for a body lotion or use it in a roll with a jojoba base oil as a gentle and lovely perfume.

The grounding power of Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin)

Patchouli is a great one for bringing us back into our body to feel more grounded, whilst keeping the mind uplifted and in good spirit. It’s a good one to put inside the wrists or to simply smell from the bottle from time to time.

*It is strongly advise to always blend essential oils with a carrier oil (like jojoba, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, etc) in order to avoid skin sensitivity and/or allergy. Repetitive neat skin application can provoke skin reaction in the longer term. Blend should contain between 2% to 3% of essential oils for normal skin and between 1% and 1.5% during pregnancy** or for sensitive skin. Always check that the essential oils are not phototoxic in case of sun exposure and use them accordingly. **During pregnancy and breastfeeding, make sure to check the general safety of the oils.
