teacher focus: Siri Sadhana Kaur

Finding Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, was a big life changer as it fused all the genres I had previously been working with. After my very first class, the chanting transported me – there was a depth and experience of coming home and I knew right back then I would teach. It also made me pick up my guitar and start writing melodies. I now record, do concerts, teach at triyoga, train yoga teachers and teach mantra dance. Just a few days ago it was confirmed I will be on the music programme at the summer solstice celebration in New Mexico. I feel so deeply blessed to share the ancient science and technology that comes through Kundalini yoga.

My former training was in physical theatre in Paris, with the innovative movement master Jacques Lecoq. I performed many years devising collaborative performances whilst teaching the art of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. I had explored a great depth of spontaneity and creativity as a performer that was enriching.

Singing and dancing accompanied me, my dance inspiration led me to high energy African dance after traveling around West Africa, I then trained in Nia fusion dance.

Many opportunities to sing arose from my theatre background. I used to sing jazz, blues and soul. I sang in bars, clubs, and did some cabaret. Busking in Paris funded my theatre school training. Whilst never formally training in singing, I learned to connect and express through an inner passion that eventually took me toward my heart and soul.

My focus both within music and theatre was a search for connection and healing, to find an authentic place and share that with an audience.

Kundalini mantras are what ignited a great calling in me, chanting mantra met a longing and search that took me inside. They are encoded formulas, that rearrange and upgrade our subconscious patterns within our participation. Alchemy occurs in rhythmic pronunciation and vibration, we are elevated into the communal and shared experience. As we chant with the heart we stand on the bridge between matter and spirit and can start to live more fully in our truth. Clearing the subtle channels opens that vast space, we resonate, uplift, and all parts within and without can come together.

Music, chanting and dance is this tremendous communal experience, performance becomes obsolete, as we focus on a higher offering, through communion we get to the union. In devotion I can get out of my own way, align, and share love of this technology. We change chemistry with any music. Yet spiritual music takes our transformation to the next level.

Mantra dance fuses the joy of dance expression, and enables one to go into a deeply devotional place through the instrument of the voice. I am always blown away with the power, transformation and possibilities we reach in singing and music.

My daughter Aloka chants with me and has recorded on all my CDs since she was little, she is coming back this summer after attending a meditation school in India founded by Yogi Bhajan. It’s such a pleasure to chant with her, when we sing together we are able to explore more harmony chanting. Part of the new CD ‘Transition’ was recorded at her school in India, here is a track that is a mantra for healing Ra ma da sa sa say so hung.
