recipe: CPress’ detox smoothie

At any other time of the year a blog post on the best ways to detox might have little resonance. Post Christmas however, the queues outside London’s healthiest eateries are perilously long and you might risk getting frostbite whilst waiting for a table, an insanely expensive boutique gym membership never seemed like such a good idea and sales of green juice continue to rise with unfaltering gusto. It’s like a rite of passage; indulge over Christmas and purge in January, wave by to December and up the sartorial anti in January with new gym gear, new diet plan and a full on DETOX.

We here at CPress love a good cleanse, and a green juice cleanse is one of the simplest and most effective ways to detox, rejuvenate a tired body and inject a killer dose of much needed vitamins and minerals. For example, in our Farmer’s Market there’s a whopping 5kg of veg. Now imagine trying to eat 5kg of kale, spinach, cucumber, parsley etc in one sitting. Daunting, even for a seasoned veggie lover. Cold pressing maintains the valuable nutrients of the vegetables so that by drinking a 490ml organic juice you can easily top up your daily quota of micronutrients, vits, mins and antioxidants.

A full on cleanse is a great way of hitting reset – by avoiding solid food for a day, three days or five (brave!), you give your hard working digestive system a well deserved break allowing your body to send energy to other areas of the body – for example, it’s vital detoxification organs.

For the fainter hearted out there, we’ve got a delicious green smoothie recipe that is not only super tasty, but packed full of immune boosting baobab (high levels of Vitamin C), spinach and a hint of sweetness from some apple. The avocado provides a healthy dose of good fats and if made in the morning for breakfast, will keep you sustained until lunch. Give this one a try on those cold January mornings – the ginger will light a fire in your belly and you’ll be doing yourself a whole lot of good with all the other functional ingredients in here. You can also order this smoothie in our CPress café’s at triyoga Ealing, Chelsea and Shoreditch.
