In the run up to his exciting weekend of workshops taking place at Camden from 10 – 12 April, Matthew Cohen gives us a deeper insight into what to expect and into the Eastern martial art practices that make his approach to yoga so unique…
‘Educari means to draw from within. The teacher creates a safe space for his students to look to him and to learn. The teachings are sound and the intention is authentic. The student evolves within his or her own guided, personal experience.’ – Sifu Matthew Cohen Founder, Sacred Energy Arts
Sacred Energy Arts is a multi-disciplinary approach to health and self-development drawn from Yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi and Martial Arts. Do you want to feel conscious, awake, and alive? To have more strength and less tension?

Yoga + tai chi fusion workshop
Yoga and Tai Chi are two ancient systems of self-mastery. Both use breath, intention, stillness and motion. Where yoga emphasises the straight, Tai Chi emphasises the round; yoga reaches to the sky, while Tai Chi sends roots deep into the earth. Imagine the marriage of these two great arts and what their offspring might look like.
Hands on healing workshop
The heart of this healing massage method is using intention, energy, our hands and our heart to help others feel better, more radiant, awake and alive. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating, regulating and managing life energy. We will learn solo and partner exercises. We will learn to clear blockages and harmonise destructive emotions as well as various techniques to alleviate back pain, neck pain and hypertension. All levels are welcome. This workshop will benefit the student as well as the health care provider or anyone interested in making others feel better.
5 element qigong workshop
Qigong is the Chinese practice of energy management through breath, meditation, and body movement. This is the fundamental training of Chinese traditional healing arts. By following the requirements for the standing stance we cultivate Qi and strengthen the body. In traditional Chinese arts there are 5 elements: fire, water, metal, earth and wood. Each of these elements corresponds with energy pathways (meridians) that are inside of ourselves. The goal of this workshop is to learn the basic tools to open meridians balance the 5 elements and improve circulation of Qi (life-force) and blood. Other benefits of this practice include balance, stress reduction and functional strength and flexibility.
Matthew Cohen has been fully immersed in the study and application of Martial, Yogic and Healing Arts for over 30 years. His teachings are at once ancient, progressive, secular and sacred. His integrated approach to healing is potent and accessible drawing from Yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Martial Arts.
