100-hrs Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Cal Wansbrough

with Cal Wansbrough

November 2024 – January 2025

overview

Applications are now open for this comprehensive and in-depth 100-hour yin yoga teacher training, providing an insightful understanding of yin yoga practice and foundations, anatomy, and teaching. You will learn the fundamentals of all yin poses and their variations as well as gaining a knowledge of Chinese Medicine and philosophy which underlies yin yoga.

Yin yoga is a slow, floor-based practice which uses long held stretches to rebalance your body. It is both a profoundly relaxing and re-energising form of yoga. It stimulates the vital energy, the life force, prana, or Qi to flow through the meridian lines, which are believed to be located deep within the fascial tissue. In doing so it restores health and well-being and prevents disease. It is based on the philosophy and understanding of Chinese Medicine and is unique among yoga styles.

The course is led by Cal Wansbrough, a yin yoga teacher and teacher trainer who has taught throughout the UK. She is also an Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Acupuncturist and therefore can offer a profound and relevant insight into the practice of Yin.

This 100-hour yin yoga teacher training will provide the accreditation, confidence, and competence to teach yin yoga in any setting. Taught over 4 weekends in person at triyoga, with 20 hours of online and self-study.

We will apply our learnings to both yang (vinyasa) and yin yoga poses. You will see and understand that everybody is different and that some poses, while they work well for the majority will cause injury or damage to others.

A large part of the course will be applied to yin poses so you conclude the training with a new-found knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as be able to teach yin yoga in a safe and informed way.

Yin yoga is based on the wisdom and philosophy of Chinese Medicine, so the training will also give you an insight and awareness of the 5 element and meridian line theory. You will gain a good understanding of which poses effect which meridian line and organ, and the physical, mental, and emotional manifestations of them.

Learning will include visuals, repetition, kinetic as well as directly experiencing in ourselves and our classmates. Yoga anatomy cannot be learned from a textbook, it needs to be felt and experienced.

Module 3 – Chinese Medicine

Yin yoga is based on the wisdom and theory of Chinese Medicine. Chinese medicine is an energetic practice and teaches us that Qi underlies all of our functioning. It is this intelligent life force which warms, moves, transforms, and protects everything in our bodies and minds. Therefore, among other things, in Chinese doctrine, rather than just examining a person’s body, it looks for the underlying or energetic cause of a patient’s problem. The Chinese frequently look underneath it all and ask what is happening to a person on a deeper level. So, it is typical not only to address a person’s symptom but also to look for the energetic cause which underlies the symptoms.

The Five Elements describe the five important phases in this underlying Qi. They are the energetic substances or processes out of which the world is made.

This module will allow you to see, feel and identify with the emotional, physiological, and mental aspects of the Five Elements, the 10 organs, and the 12 channels. You will gain an insight and understanding into the ancient practice and wisdom of both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Practice, and apply this to yoga both on and off the mat. This module will elucidate this ancient philosophy and medicine and reveal how certain patterns, behaviours and habits play out in every part of your life.

Aims of this module:
