Course Details
‘Essence of Being’ is a 200hr+ foundation teacher training with Susannah Hoffman, delivered over monthly weekends from October to July — a spacious programme for those who want to learn to teach safely and incrementally, while deepening self-study, self-awareness and personal practice. Philosophy and personal development are woven through every stage, not bolted on at the end.
You will study the main asanas in depth, sequencing and beginner course design, verbal and hands-on assisting, the energetic body — koshas, chakras, mudras and bandhas — pranayama, meditation, and yoga’s philosophy, history and modern forms. Between modules, home study, self-practice and philosophy and anatomy assignments keep the learning alive.
You’ll be supported by specialist faculty: philosophy with Adriana Maldonado, anatomy with Dr Andrew McGonigle, and Ayurveda with Tarik Dervish.
By the end of the training you’ll know how to teach and integrate philosophy into your classes, how to practise for your own type, and how to teach safely and incrementally — having been on a personal journey of self-discovery along the way.

Meet our teachers

Susannah was one of the original teachers on the Triyoga teacher training, which she taught for over 14 years, and has trained hundreds of teachers. Having started yoga as a child and grown up with eastern philosophies, she passionately believes yoga is a moving meditation whose teachings should not be lost — and has created a training that makes the philosophy accessible and integrated throughout.
Susannah teaches all ages from pregnancy onwards, is the author of the best-selling book Yoga for Kids (DK) and created Triyoga’s popular Teaching Yoga to Children training. She is a TrainerPro and Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals UK and a BWY-trained teacher, certified in pregnancy yoga, massage, crystal healing and Reiki, as well as an experienced doula.

Philosophy is taught by Adriana Maldonado, who holds an MA from SOAS in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation and is a Level 4 (500hr+) BWY teacher. She teaches philosophy in a way that makes it easily accessible — so you can integrate it into your own life, and pass it on to your students.

Anatomy is taught by the much-loved “Doctor Yogi”, Dr Andrew McGonigle — a doctor and long-time yoga practitioner who brings a playful, relevant approach, and the author of Supporting Yoga Students with Common Injuries and Conditions. Anatomy sessions are pre-recorded, with live monthly Zoom meetings.
Leads the Ayurveda and “yoga for your type” strand of the training.

Yoga Alliance Professionals UK accredited (200hr+)
Graduates receive a 200hr+ certification accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals UK — awarded on completion of all assignments and a final teaching assessment.
