restorative yoga level 1 teacher training

with Anna Ashby + Chris Swain

28–30 October and 25–27 November 2022

triyoga Camden

33 hours

overview

This unique teacher training focuses on the practice, art and teaching of restorative yoga and is led by Anna Ashby, one of the UK’s leading restorative yoga teachers. Anna has been leading restorative teacher trainings for more than 15 years and is the author of the go-to book for teachers, Restorative Yoga: Power, Presence and Practice for Teachers and Trainees (2022).

Each weekend will include the practice, study and learning of foundational restorative poses, the anatomy and physiology of stress, and how to sequence and teach a restorative yoga class. It allows for a deep immersion in the restorative practices as a means for understanding its teaching.

This course is taught in person at triyoga Camden. There is an early bird price discount if you book before 30th September.

Anna Ashby’s restorative yoga teacher training was an excellent course, combining practical teaching experience led by Anna, with anatomy and physiology presented by Chris Swain. Chris was informative and presented anatomy in an entertaining way that kept everyone’s attention. With plenty of time to practise teaching each other, we gained a good foundation in being able to structure a class and present each posture, finding adaptations to suit individual students. I now incorporate restorative yoga postures in my classes, and teach restorative yoga classes, I have found the course manual to be an invaluable resource when planning.

course content

This 33-hour training for teachers and teacher trainees includes ample time for exploring, understanding and practising the postures, with emphasis given to adapting the posture set-ups to suit students’ individual needs and bodies.

Anna Ashby will lead the restorative yoga practices and art of teaching sessions, and Chris Swain will teach the physiology of the nervous system and breathing, as well as the anatomy of the six key restorative postures.

The training will draw upon the teachings and practices in Anna’s book, Restorative Yoga: Power, Presence, Practice for Teachers and Trainees. Please purchase the book for use during the training, at your local bookstore or online. After registering for the training, you will be sent a 25% discount code to purchase the book through the publisher, Singing Dragon. The training also includes a basic manual to be used as a companion to her book. The manual is included in the course fee.

She is one of London’s leading yoga teachers and founder and senior faculty member of triyoga’s teacher training programme. She holds the highest level of certification from recognised accrediting bodies, Yoga Alliance Professionals in the UK and Yoga Alliance US (Senior Teacher/E-RYT 500). Anna’s teaching style evolved from her study of dance, in-depth training in modern styles of yoga that focus on alignment and precision, and immersion in a wide variety of traditional yoga practices and teachings while living for 12 years in a yoga ashram. She has been teaching restorative yoga at triyoga for more than 15 year, developing and refining her skill in facilitating restorative practices. Her book, Restorative Yoga: Power, Presence, Practice for Teachers, was published in spring 2022 and has become the go-to book on the topic. Chris Swain is an osteopath and has been teaching yoga for 25 years, initially qualifying as a teacher with the Chinese Yoga Federation in 1987, then as an Iyengar yoga teacher, before being introduced to Ashtanga yoga with John Scott in London in 1999. While studying for an English Literature degree at UEA in the early 1980s Chris came across yoga, Kempo (a martial art), Cheirology (hand reading) and meditation. He developed a deep interest in natural healing. He moved to London in 1996 to take a four-year degree in osteopathy, deepening his understanding of western medical models. He is on the faculty of the triyoga 200-hour teacher training course and also teaches asana and anatomy-based workshops incorporating his knowledge of anatomy as an osteopath. The reason he practises yoga is simple: “A day with yoga is better than a day without yoga.”
