Fri, 1 July 2022 to Wed, 21 September 2022

The Curriculum

This course will provide you with a broad, comprehensive foundation for teaching yoga to everyone. Additionally, it will focus on helping you teach beginning students, private sessions and small groups since these are the most common students.

Our curriculum is comprised of 4 integrated units of practice and study: Asana Practice, Functional Anatomy, Philosophical Inquiry, and Teaching Methodology. Each of these units are inherently intertwined. For example, functional anatomy informs our asana practice and our teaching techniques. Similarly, our philosophical inquiry grounds us in the yoga tradition and guides our teaching. Here is a small sample of how these units will work together.

This training has an exceptionally skillful and comprehensive approach to practicing and teaching modern yoga. Yoga is much more than an asana practice. At the same time, the asana practice is the main place where people experience all of the other dimensions of the practice. Our Asana Practice curriculum will operate on two levels simultaneously: you will deepen and refine your practice while learning the most effective techniques to teach your future students.

Our study of functional anatomy focuses on yoga’s unique ability to manage the physical and mental stresses of modern life. We’ll also study functional anatomy to ensure that the techniques we’re using are modern, logical, and up-to-date. Our approach to functional anatomy and technique is informed by Jason’s two decades of teaching, as well as his work ongoing study with Dr. Bryan Lau and Dr. Paul Roache, both of which are leading Dr’s of Sports Medicine and Orthopedics. Even more, our approach to learning functional anatomy is accessible, down-to-earth, and practical.

At its’ core, Yoga is the study of humanness and transcendence. Although we take a modern approach to asana practice, functional anatomy, and teaching methodology, our philosophical inquiry is rooted in the Tradition of Yoga. In this training, we will study the history, wisdom, and philosophical paradigms that form the Yoga Tradition.

Our goal is to prepare graduates so that they’re ready to begin teaching upon graduation. To do this, we will focus heavily on the 4 most critical elements of teaching: sequencing your classes, verbally cueing your classes, manually guiding your students, and being technically accurate in your description of postures, techniques and philosophy.
