Bathing Beauty: super clean + super natural skincare

We catch up with Georgina Jones, founder of Bathing Beauty; the solution based skincare brand which is homegrown and handmade in Wales and can now be found in London at triyoga.

How did Bathing Beauty begin?
Bathing Beauty was created out of desperation and a deep rooted belief that I could do better.

After graduating as an Osteopath, we were blessed with 3 children. When we started to wean our son Titus, he developed appalling eczema. Everything that was prescribed seemed to sting his delicate skin, nothing seemed to make a difference.

We set out to find something to help and spent months trying different homemade potions. Eventually we created an oil, to soothe, heal and moisturise and a cold processed soap to clean him. As an Osteopath, I was taught that ‘structure governs function’, and that’s how I came to create solution based skincare.

Where do you source the ingredients for your products?
The products are a combination of Organic, Fairtrade and home grown, using biodynamic principles, following the moon cycle. Our products are certified by either The Vegan Society, or The Vegetarian Society, because some contain Beeswax or honey.

Where and how are the products made?
I am immensely proud to say every product is handmade at my workshop The Source – a converted Victorian cart shed, nestled in the foothills of The Clwydian Range in North Wales.

We make every product from raw ingredients, using my original formulae, as opposed to using ready-made bases. Some of the ingredients are grown in our herb beds at The Source. We plant and harvest our herbs in tune with the moon, as I really believe it boosts the harvest and potency.

All the packaging is recyclable, and reusable. My husband even draws the product illustrations for the front of the packaging!

Who are bathing beauty products for?
Bathing Beauty products have been created as solutions to specific skincare issues, but of course everyone can enjoy and benefit from them.

Many of our customers are in remission, or fighting longstanding illness. They have switched to a clean diet and then switched over with their body care products; it makes sense as the skin is your largest organ and it absorbs a large percentage of what you put on it. Last time I checked, we didn’t need emulsifying!

Many of our customers have multiple allergies and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. They have found that Bathing Beauty products are not just tolerated by their sensitive skin but it actually improves their condition

What does it means when a product is ‘super clean’ and ‘super natural’?
We do not thin our products by adding water and we make them using traditional techniques. This ensures our products are 100% therapeutic ingredient. Also we do not require emulsifiers or preservatives in our skincare, nor do we use alcohol, nut, palm or fragrance oils. This is why we refer to our skincare as Super Natural, or Super Clean.

Why should we opt for super clean and natural products over high street options?
It may be cheaper to buy mass produced high street brands, but our products are 100% ingredients as opposed to 60% ‘aqua’ (water) and 40% product. Our products also last a lot longer. Bathing Beauty products are also not tested on animals and are all certified with the Vegetarian or Vegan Society.

What makes Bathing Beauty different from other natural brands out there?
It feels like there is a lot of green washing in the natural beauty industry. And as an area of growth, many larger companies see this as a market to extend into, simply by tweaking their ingredients.

Many companies buy the bases for formulas before adding extra oils or using almond or other nut oils. But with children who suffer from allergies, these are no for us, and why we create solutions at Bathing Beauty, not ranges. I do not believe in adding extra ingredients, or creating additional products for customers, when just one does the job.

Where does the inspiration for your products come from?
My family, their needs, my osteopathic patients; my Jones the Bones muscle and joint oil was created with them in mind. My mother, who brought myself and my brothers up in the knowledge that you can achieve anything as long as you never give up.

What’s next in the pipeline for Bathing Beauty?
In theory a Baby range. At the moment my products can be used on children over the age of 3 years.

What is your personal favourite product from the range?
That depends on the time of the year. Right now I’m loving Soothe, our founding oil created for sore sensitive skin. It’s incredibly soporific and a great help with 3 teenagers, one of whom is sitting exams. We also discovered it is amazing as an after sun!
